Basic training for confidential counsellors 2-day

Every organization is legally obligated to provide a safe working environment for its employees. This also entails preventing and minimizing unwanted behavior. Because unwanted behavior (such as (sexual) harassment, bullying, aggression, discrimination, and unethical conduct) also leads to higher absenteeism, there is a clear economic interest as well. A well-trained confidential advisor can make a significant difference in this regard. For employees, they provide a listening ear and someone who can offer advice and support, while for the organization, they offer guidance on how to prevent such behavior and minimize its consequences as much as possible. The role of a confidential advisor requires adequate knowledge and communication skills. This training lays the groundwork so that current and future confidential advisors can confidently take on this role.

During this 2-day training, you will learn the fundamentals of working as a confidential advisor. We will cover topics such as the duties and role of the confidential advisor, their position within the organization, and the legal framework in which they operate. Additionally, there will be a focus on the skills required by a confidential advisor, with opportunities for practice and refinement. The emphasis will be on the general framework of the confidential advisor's work and on unwanted behaviors (such as harassment, sexual harassment, bullying, aggression, and discrimination), with brief attention given to integrity issues.

Starting from 2024, a central national exam will be introduced.

Please note: the National Association of Confidential Advisors (LVV) has recently announced that as of January 1, 2024, a central national exam will be mandatory following the completion of the 4-day basic training in order to register as a certified confidential advisor. This means that from that date onwards, you will be required to successfully complete a national knowledge test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions, followed by an assessment with a training actor. Read more about this on our blog. If you complete the four-day training with Merlijn successfully before January 1, 2024, you will still fall under the old certification scheme.

10:30 – 11:15: What is unwanted behavior? What are unwanted interactions? What is integrity? Impact on victims and organizations?

11:30 – 12:30: Confidential advisor role, distinctions between unwanted interactions and integrity issues, professional attitude

12:30 – 13:00: Confidential advisor within the organization (relationship with other bodies, policies)

13:00 – 14:00: Lunch

15:15 – 16:30: Role-playing exercises
